9 Things That Make Ao Nang a Must-Visit Tropical Paradise

Are you considering the idea of traveling to Krabi? What are you going to do when you get there? Well, there is a little place called Ao Nang that really makes your trip worthwhile. It’s is close to all the major tourist attractions. The town is loaded with shops, bars, and restaurants which make it a little bit touristy. Whether you’re going to stop in for the night or if you plan to stay your whole trip, there are several reasons why Ao Nang is a great place to go.

The Phi Phi Islands

A sub-district of Ao Nang is the world renowned Phi Phi Islands. When looking for some nightlife, the Phi Phi Don is the largest of the group of islands and has everything you could want as far as partying the evening away goes. If you aren’t into that kind of thing, it’s still a beautiful area to visit; you just may want to do it during the day instead.

Ao Nang Beach

Some say that this isn’t the best of all beaches around the world, but it sure is gorgeous. There are long tail boat rentals available, and you can jump in one and take it to a nearby island for a more secluded experience. Near the southern end, you will find bars, hotels, and more lined up for when you want to get out of the sun and water for a while.

Nopparat Thara Beach

This beach is great if you’re looking for some peace and quiet. Plenty of people come to this area to enjoy the shade and do some picnicking and BBQ under the casuarinas trees. When the tide is low, you can walk over the seashell covered ocean floor out to the smaller islands for some adventure. If you don’t feel like doing the cooking, there are plenty of restaurant options along the Nopparat Thara Plaza which also has several bars and shopping boutiques.

Monkey Trail and Pai Plong Beach

From the south end of Ao Nang Beach, there is a trail that takes about 15 minutes to travel. It leads you to the Pai Plong Beach just over the mountain. It’s a little hidden oasis that allows for some comfortable time away from all the hustle and bustle of the busier touristy spots. When you aren’t worried about your budget, one of the finest hotels is near here, and you can stay at the Centara Grand Resort and Villas instead of heading back to the city.

Klong Haeng Walking Street Market

On Wednesdays between 4:00 and 8:00 there is a wonderful place to sample all of the local favorites. You can get street food without having to deal with the craziness of being in town, as this is located right on the outskirts. You can bet that you aren’t going see many other tourists in this area though. This is someplace that the local Thais go when they want the real deal.

It’s no secret that the massages in these areas are the best that you’re going to experience. There is a place called Massage Corner that is right near the end of a side street off of Klong Haeng Road. It’s a bit of a hidden gem surrounded by plants and trees where you can get an open-air massage for not a lot of cash. It may be the best spot to go in all of Thailand.

Island Hoping

When you’re in Ao Nang, you have access to a lot of other islands that are nearby. Poda Island is one that many visitors travel to so that they can picnic and walk on the white sand beaches. If you enjoy snorkeling, dive into these crystal clear waters with your cameras and snap some stunning photos of tropical fish.

There are an endless amount of restaurants scattered all throughout Ao Nang that offer some of the best Asian cuisines that you are ever going to come across. Instead of eating the street food, which is really tasty, you can jump into one of these places and sit down and relax for a meal instead. There is a view from the hilltop that you are seated on if you go to Lae Lay Grill that is breathtaking. You will get some of the most delicious seafood in the area. If you go just before sunset, you will also get some of the most gorgeous views.

The Scenery

From the karst formations with the Railay Peninsula to rooftop bars that offer you a fantastic view of the entire city, there is more here to see than what anyone could ask for. Climbers from all over the world come to explore the mountains while those that enjoy a fun night in town get the opportunity to sit on top of a resort and kick back.
